OUR STORY
It started with one girl.
In 2020, during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, a teenage girl named Grace found herself pregnant after her family attempted to force her into an early marriage in exchange for financial support. Terrified and out of options, she ran away.
Instead of finding safety, she was rejected. Her family disowned her. Her community turned its back on her. She was alone, carrying not only a child but the weight of shame, fear, and uncertainty.
Then she found a church in Kabale, Uganda.
Victor and Christine Tukakira didn't have a grand plan to start a nonprofit. They simply opened the door to their home and welcomed Grace in.
But Grace wasn't the only one.
Before long, more young mothers began arriving with similar stories: girls abandoned by their families, rejected by their communities, and desperately searching for hope. At one point, Victor and Christine had nine teenage mothers and their babies living under the same roof as their own family.
Mama Christine knew they couldn't turn them away.
In a remarkable act of faith, Victor and Christine sold a small business they owned so they could rent a larger facility and continue saying "yes" to every girl who needed a safe place to land.
That simple act of compassion became Addi Home of Grace.
Today, Addi Home of Grace serves more than 105 young women and children, providing far more than shelter and education.
Every young mother receives nutritious meals, emotional counseling, and practical vocational training in skills like tailoring, hair design, nail care, basket weaving, leatherwork, and cooking. Many of these girls have survived unimaginable trauma and hopelessness. Some arrived after attempting to end their own lives or the lives of their unborn children. Here, they discover something many have never experienced before: that they are deeply loved, valued, and capable of building a new future.
The goal has never been simply to care for these young women, it has been to empower them. As they learn valuable trades, they also learn how to sell the products they create in local markets, equipping them to provide for themselves and their children long after they leave Addi Home of Grace.
OUR FUTURE
The story is still being written.
Today, every morning buses bring mothers and their children to Addi Home of Grace so they can learn, grow, and receive care before returning home each evening.
But we dream of something more.
Construction is already underway to expand our campus with on-site living quarters, creating a permanent place where vulnerable young mothers and their children can live, learn, and heal together. New green spaces and playgrounds are already bringing joy to the children who fill our campus every day, and each new building brings us one step closer to becoming a true home, not just a school.
What began with one young girl has become a place of hope for hundreds.
And we're just getting started.

Organizations in the United States have come alongside Addi Home of Grace by praying, giving generously, and building lasting relationships with the young women and children we serve.
These partnerships are more than financial support. They are a reminder that the Church is at its best when it reaches across cultures and continents to care for the vulnerable together.
Every life changed in Uganda is a testimony to what God can do when His people unite around His mission.
